Going to see Santa!!! (here we go again...)

Well, I have to post this information that may mean very little to the reader but here it goes... yesterday I took my son to the Shops at Willowbend in Plano, TX to see Santa...this is my son's 3rd Christmas at 2 1/2 years old and our 2nd trip to see Santa. Let me just say WOW! He did awesome!...he walked right up to Santa, smiled, and just backed into his lap and giggled...Santa was super great and tickled him, etc. but what a great Santa experience this year!! And of course last night is when it really hit me why us, as parents, do this kind of crazy thing every year (you know, drive miles to wait in line to pay crazy $$ for a picture!)....my little boy found his Santa picture on the counter and carried it around not wanting to let go, saying "Santa, Santa!" Dad had to play a trick to get it out of his hand and switch him over to his Thomas train and Lightning McQueen car so he wouldn't tear my $40 Santa picture, haha! What a great time!

...however, I must admit, the best part yet of this holiday season and parenting thing at Christmas time is when my son now sees Baby Jesus and says..."Thank you Baby Jesus!" That is priceless! Merry Christmas! Take time to hug your baby and enjoy this time...soon it will be gone!

Nearly Million Toys Recalled Because Of Concerns Over Lead Paint

WASHINGTON -- Toy-maker Fisher-Price is recalling 83 types of toys -- including the popular Big Bird, Elmo, Dora and Diego characters -- because their paint contains excessive amounts of lead.The worldwide recall being announced Thursday involves 967,000 plastic preschool toys made by a Chinese vendor and sold in the United States between May and August. It is the latest in a wave of recalls that has heightened global concern about the safety of Chinese-made products.

Today the Mom's Club of McKinney had the great opportunity to visit the McKinney Fire Station on McDonald Street. It was a wonderful experience for my son of 2 years. Although he didn't understand all the talking and rules, he loved the sounds and trucks! As he runs around the house with his fire bracelet on, his red fire hat on and his tattoo on his forearm I realize how fun staying home with my son really is and what opportunities it offers for the both of us. I must admit, sometimes I wonder why did I give up my career and the use of my college degree that I worked so hard for to stay home...but when I look at these moments, I soon realize what God intended on me to do as a mom and a mom of His child.

Treasure your moments...and thank your local firemen for the great work they do. While we were there they were actually called out and not one of them hesitated, they just jumped aboard the truck and off they went to deliver their services.

...are you trying to do something without stepping on your little one? and no play-dough on hand? ...Ok, if you get desperate for entertainment at the dinner table or while you are cooking, out to eat, give your little one a piece of foil, yes, plain foil, and let them play...wrap their silverware, around their finger, etc. THEY LOVE IT! (mine sits at the table in his booster with his cars and silverware and wraps/scrunches, etc. while I cook, blog, haha, etc.)...just another tip, let me know if your child likes it!

Yesterday I was at the park with my son and I was playing with him, following him around to make sure he didn't fall off the sides, run too fast, etc. and all a sudden I hear a loud cry. A little girl had fallen off the side of the playground. So, of course, a mom's reaction, I ran over and helped her up and started to dust her off and ask her where her mom was. I heard a boy say, that's my sister. So then another mom asked, will you please call your mom over. So, the mom, with a bothered look, gets up and walks over and grabs her little girl, walks slowly at that. She of course does the hug thing but doesn't once say thank you to me and kind of gives me this look like I was bothering her. Anyhow, the little girl was about 2, not that old and it was a big fall, about 6+ feet high, a good cry. (and yes I know some kids over react for attention but this was a big fall, caught lots of others attention too) If she would have landed wrong she could have hurt herself. I know if my son at that age were to fall I would be thankful for the nearest person to stop. Come to find out this was the same mom of the little boy, about 5 years, that was following me around just begging for attention, telling me, a complete stranger, to watch him and if I could help him swing, walk the bars, etc. I think it is sad to see children in need of love and attention. The little girl ran back out and kind of followed me, watched me and smiled. It got my heart....hug your child today and just let them know you love them, life is too short!

Baby saftety help

Ok, some may know of this but I read/found (although a little too late for my 19 mnth old) a breathable bumper pad for your baby's crib, esp. if they seem to get their legs/arms stuck while tossing and turning at night...you can find them online or at Babys R Us, by Babytrend I believe, around $25, very cool...wish I would have found it earlier. We took our decorative bumper pad out b/c I was afraid and warned by the doctor of the risks, and as he got older I thought I'd put it back to get some use out of the expensive thing but now he uses everything as an escape tool from any type of crib, hence our crib tent--another great find thanks to some friends ;_

OK, being inside for a day or so is ok but I'm ready for the cold to go away! I hate my husband having to drive to work in it, I hate the dogs not being able to be outside and most of all I hate my son and I having to stay in all day.-maybe hate is too harsh of a word, dislike is better. I know my gets bored and I can only chase him around the house for so long. Any inside games for 2 year olds? We have a pop-up tent we play with but he's already bored with that...any other ideas?

Well, I am new at the Mom Day Out Program shopping experience. What are some key things to look for from other experienced moms? I want a quality, loving environment for my son that is simple and safe. I want him to feel safe and loved. I only want one or two days because I am not ready to give him up, he will be in a full-day school when it is time, soon enough! I just want something to help him with his social skills. I think I am leaning more towards a one day a week program for his twos, and then maybe 2 days when he is 3.

My son is 18 months and healthy but I'm trying to figure out if I should put him on vitamins? They offer baby vitamin drops, I know Gerber and Infamil both carry a product of this type. I'm just not sure if it's necessary or really does anything? It does not have iron in it as I know this can cause constipation in little ones! Also, I'm trying to look into calcium supplements b/c my son does not like milk all that much!

Very cool, this morning I was watching the news and there is a man that had the inspiration to create a tennis shoe with a tracking device after he lost his son. You can buy these shoes for your kids and track them wherever they go...they are also available for adults at a nice cost of about $300!

What's the best age to start taking kids to the dentist?

Well, yesterday I went for my 6 month check-up/cleaning at the dentist and took my son along. It was recommended that I take my son for his first check-up at age 1. I think that's crazy! Why pay $150-200 to get a 12 month olds teeth "looked at?" They can't even get their teeth really cleaned at that age and only have a few. So, anyhow, when I went in yesterday my dentist agreed to look in my sons mouth. He only lasted about 1 minute before throwing a fit and then all was fine. My dentist has been around forever, he actually was my dentist when I was a kid, and he said all looked perfectly normal...so, are baby dental visits a rip-off? I'm saying yes, unless you have a dental emergency, broken tooth, teeth not coming in, wrong color, obvious things but I think paying $200 at age 1 to get my sons teeth "looked at" is crazy! Funny thing...there was a waiting list at one dental office for my son that was recommended I call and they said that they do not take insurance, huh-wonder why?

Why is cutting teeth for babies such a hard time??? Even after Tylenol, there was no relief for this little guy, 1am, 2am,3am,4am.... He woke up just biting on his hand. Finally this morning he's back to sleep, only problem, dad had to go back to work after maybe 1-2 hours of sleep and well, I'm just learning how to deal with no sleep. Stay home moms don't need sleep, right? We don't do much during the day, haha, just lay around and eat bon-bons, haha!! So, wish me luck today. Any baby relief out there for cutting teeth? The ironic thing is he has his 1st dental appointment today, should be interesting.

18 months and already crawling out of crib! yikes!

I don't know how many parents have this problem so early on in child development but our almost 18 month old son decided to crawl out of his crib one night while "crying it out." He decided to find his parents that were hiding trying to deliver Santa! We were not ready for this one, but are you ever ready for things our kids decide to do?? We found a great fix thanks to a friends suggestion. It is called a crib tent. We found ours at Babys R Us and online at One Step Ahead. I wasn't fully aware of this so I thought I'd pass on the great advice we received. It has taken some time getting use to for our son but I think he's going to adjust. He woke up kind of freaked out the first night of use but doing better. Anything is better than a broken limb and a trip to the ER?
